Rick & Kathy Schubert and the Dashevsky-Bluestein team led the runner-ups with excellent scores of 360 and 300, respectively. Several other teams also turned in fine scores. Special recognition goes to Gavin Finnie for being the only respondent to to know song #23, and who also recognized the artist for both tie-breaker songs. Thanks to all who participated. I just posted GOLQ51 for Barry Silk (bsilk@charm.isi.edu) which is due on 11/30/93. It was accompanied by "Little Honda", "Don't Back Down", and "Hushabye". Written by Brian Wilson, who has a daughter named Wendy, a member (along with sister Carnie and Chynna Phillips, daughter of John & Michelle Phillips) of the current soft-rock vocal group, Wilson Phillips).] I get a little lonely In the middle of the night I need you, darling To make things all right Come on, Baby! He said that it was sung that way on his Drifters' greatest hits CD. I have two copies of the song taped off oldies' stations where the line does not include "just". Anyone have the 45 to check which is the original?] I love her, love her, love her so And I'll never, never let her go One thing for certain She's mine, all mine (She's mine, she's mine, all of the time) Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh #09) Edsels: "Rama Lama Ding Dong" (1961) [21] [Jamie said it was written by lead singer, George Jones, Jr. Howard, Rick, & Pete Olden said it was originally released in '58 on Dub records as "Lama Rama Ding Dong" (a label error), but didn't chart. Four of those gave "Rain Rain Go Away" by Bobby Vinton as the answer, which includes the similar lines: Rain, rain, go away Come again some other day] [Vee always felt that the chart performance of this song was hurt by Dick Clark's refusal to play it on American Bandstand. Clark had just gone through a divorce (from wife, Barbara) when Vee released the song, and the song was apparently too painful for him.] Foolish pride That's all that I have left So let me hide The tears and the sadness you gave me When you said goodbye-eye-eye-e-eye #24) Warwick, Dionne: "Walk On By" (1964) [6] {6} [Barry, Jamie, & Rick said this was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and Jamie added that Dionne was named by music trade magazines as the top R&B singer of 1964. Warwick was the subject of an unflattering story on the "Day One" news show last week, which alleged impropriety in the handling of money raised from all-star galas to benefit AIDS-victim organizations. John's version of the songs were on his '74 "Rock & Roll" LP. Lennon eventually counter-sued Levy (and won) because Levy used a copy of Lennon's tape and produced an LP (available only through a TV offer) called "John Lennon Sings the Great Rock & Roll Hits (Roots)".] The tears that I have shed by day Gave relief and washed away The memory of the night before I wonder if I'll suffer more #T2) Everly Brothers: "I Wonder If I Care As Much" (1957) [-] [This song is designated in the Whitburn book a "best seller flip" of "Bye Bye Love", because both sides were listed together on the charts for one week.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This chart ranks the songs/artists from most recognized to least recognized.
