Date: Wed, 16 Jul 1997 12:24:08 GMT RESULTS and ANSWER KEY for GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #111 Congratulations to REALLY ROCKIN' IN BOSTON for winning GOLQ#111! They missed a perfect score by only one tie-breaker on this moderately difficult quiz. They also uniquely identified two songs: #10 and #14. The only other teams to score at least 400 points were JAMIE LUBIN & NORM KATUNA and THE GYPSY'S CARAVAN. I thought it was unusual that The Gypsy's Caravan scored 400 points, but missed a number one song: #09 (and many other teams missed it)! If you're interested in hearing excerpts of some of the lesser known songs from this quiz, check out Rick Schubert's anonymous ftp site at ftp://ftp.cts.com:/users/sd/s/schubert. I've provided Rick with several .wav files from this quiz: #01,03,10,13,14,19,20,25,T1. Each .wav file contains the quiz lyrics. If you need help, contact Rick via e-mail. Thanks to all who entered! -- Barry [Jyrki Ilva & Pekka Halonen will be posting GOLQ#112 shortly] _____________________________________________________________________________ After each score below are two characters representing the two tie-breakers: A "+" indicates a tie-breaker answered correctly; a "-" indicates partial credit; an "x" indicates a totally incorrect guess; a "." indicates no guess. Did all my kisses go through you? #14) Mindbenders: "Ashes To Ashes" (1966) [55] {-} The last of four songs to chart for this rock group from Manchester, England. And although it was their lowest chart hit, I think it is far superior to "Game Of Love" and "A Groovy Kind Of Love". She swore that she was mine alone Our love would never die I'm leaving now for parts unknown I saw her with that guy That's the reason why I'll be passing by #15) Gene Pitney: "Last Chance To Turn Around" (1965) [13] {-} Written by Anthony Bruno, Stanley Kahan and Victor Millrose. Ruffin and fellow Temp Eddie Kendrick later joined Daryl Hall and John Oates on a 1985 medley which included "My Girl" recorded at the reopening of New York's Apollo Theatre (entitled "A Nite At The Apollo Live! The Way You Do The Things You Do/My Girl"). Bobby Vee also included it in a medley ("My Girl/Hey Girl" in 1968), and Suave also charted with "My Girl" in 1988. I expected #09 (a number one song) to be recognized by more people. I didn't expect #19 to rank so low since it charted fairly high and is by Elvis. I'm also surprised that #13 was only recognized by only three teams since I remember it getting lots of airplay back on Philly radio back in 1969/70. _______________________________________________________________________ Barry Silk (barrys@cais.com)
