Rounding out the top ten were COLE & COLE and BRIAN & PAM, both with 380+. . Thanks to all who entered my first quiz. Now it's back to playing on GOLQ115. I've been having computer problems since the weekend, so I apologize for the late response to some of the entrants, and because I can't print all the notes people sent me regarding the songs. Hope to be a quizmaster again. -- Rich Ardini Subject: Correction to the RESULTS of Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #114 (GOLQ114) Message-ID: Date: Sat, 27 Sep 1997 19:26:05 GMT Correction to the Results of GOLQ114 I just received an entry from Wendy Vickers after I posted the results. Thanks to a patient friend who let me use his computer when my modem died, I thought I had all the entries for GOLQ114. However, some acknowledgments I sent were never received, although the entries were scored and posted, and this one entry arrived late. Wendy's score is 340, which makes a 3-way tie for 15th place become a 4-way tie. This also affects the overall rankings and scoring matrix. The updates to GOLQ114 are: After each score below are two characters representing the two tie-breakers: A "+" indicates a tie-breaker answered correctly; a "-" indicates partial credit; an "x" indicates a totally incorrect guess; a "." indicates no guess. God gave me that girl to lean on Then he put me on my own Heaven help me be a man Have the strength to stand alone #04) Johnny Cash:"Guess Things Happen That Way" (1958) [11] {-} And all the eyes of everyone are staring And I know that they're comparing the two Whispering and saying when they do See the difference between the old and new #05) Chad & Jeremy:"Before And After" (1965) [17] {-} Oh, I'm gonna love you, Oh, oh, Nothing can stop me now #06) Gene Chandler:"Duke Of Earl" (1962) [1] {1} Jamie Lubin: actually the Dukays, not just Chandler, were the artists. But all that's left is a place dark and lonely A terraced house in a mean street back of town Becomes a shrine when I think of you only Just two up two down #11) Herman's Hermits:"No Milk Today" (1967) [35] {-} EJs: B-side of "There's A Kind Of Hush". River is deep and the river is wide Hallelujah Milk and honey on the other side Hallelujah #12) Highwaymen:"Michael" (1961) [1] {-} Coasters:[a 19th-century folk song ("Michael Row Your Boat Ashore")] You come and go Like the morning sun I was so serious But you were having fun #13) Chuck Jackson:"I Don't Want To Cry" (1961) [36] {5} The leaves on the trees would be softly sighin' If they heard from the breeze that you left me cryin' #14) Billy J. Their "Forever Changes" album is considered a 60s lp classic. Their leader, Arthur Lee, was the first person to hire Jimi Hendrix as a sideman, while producing Rosa Lee Brooks' "My Diary" in 1964. I think that the parentheses are not actual on the 45 but are Whitburn's notation for indicating that the "/Canticle" part were listed on the next line and probably in smaller print, but I'm not sure. He also says this was a medieval folk ballad first published in 1673; I believe that was just the "Scarborough Fair" part. They did not sing the "Canticle" part of this in their Central Park concert in the 80s (and I assume never did in concert as it had to be a studio mix), which made the song sound much different.] It's not a dream you're seeing When you get a glimpse of the lady with the charms But from miles away, you can see her sway To the beat of the Cuban conga line of horns #24) Mitchell Torok:"Caribbean" (1959) [27] {26} Love's a game, you're in it And you were so proud of it Someone you can depend on Someone you can rely on #25) Wildweeds:"No Good To Cry" (1967) [88] {-} Several: Al Anderson, later of NRBQ, was the lead vocal. #1 on WHYN in Springfield, MA on May 21, 1966. ------------- Tie-breakers ------------- Just follow the rules and you will see And as life travels on And things do go wrong #T1) Eddie Cochran:"Three Steps To Heaven" (1960) [108] {-} Eddie died when a taxi he was riding in skidded into a lamp post while en route to London on April 17, 1960. One of the local policemen called to the accident was 16-year old police cadet David Harman (later Dave Dee of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich). Two months later, this song tops the UK charts but would never chart in the U.S. You see, some folks are often blamed and accused Usually for things that they don't do ,huh, But you see, I know that everybody needs somebody And I'm so grateful, baby, that I've got you #T2) Soul Clan:"That's How It Feels" (1968) [-] {-} CD 1, Track 1 of the new Rhino box set, "Beg, Scream and Shout". King and Joe Tex. __________________________________________________________________ This chart ranks the songs from most recognized to the least recognized.
