RESULTS and ANSWER KEY for GOLDEN OLDIES LYRICS QUIZ #141 The teams of MIKE WEAVER, BEN BAGDONAS AND GEORGE McCLELLAN were in the pink for GOLQ 141 by being the only team to get all 25 regular songs for a score of 500. BARRY SILK, JENNY MCCAW, SCOOTER MACGRUDER AND JOE HAERTEL were second with a 490, missing only a theme-related artist. The GYPSY's CARAVAN had the toughest luck identifying 26 of the 27 songs and coming in third with a 480++. The usual strong entries were turned in by JAMIE LUBIN and MIKE WESTON, RANDY PRICE, the DELPHI TRIVIA CLUB and ANTONIO TORRALBA, DOMINIC BEGG, BEN ROWDON and TUNDE. Also above the 450 mark were the COASTERS and IN-A-PRODIG-Y-VIDA. The theme was colors, which like the weather theme, was identified by just about everyone, although a few people forget that when guessing Neil Diamond. The average score was a very high 352, and about two thirds of the teams scored 340 or higher. Barry Silk has already posted GOLQ 142. Thanks to all for entering. -- Rich Ardini ________________________________________________________________________ After each score below are two characters representing the two tie-breakers: "+" indicates a tie-breaker answered correctly; "-" indicates partial credit; "x" indicates a totally incorrect guess; "." indicates no guess. Best cover of "The Train Kept-A Rollin'" in Spanish. However, they "transformed" "Route 66" into "San Carlos Club" (a tribute to their favourite bar). The group was the result of a merger between "Los Sonor" (an instrumental combo, a la "Tornados", from Madrid) and Mike & The Runaways (a group from Mallorca). Their lead singer was called Mike Kennedy (alias), from Germany. Their French producer, Alain Milhaud, gets them some songs ("La Moto," the motorbike) and contacts British producer Ivor Raymonde ("I Only Want To Be With You",...), who has some demos, including "Black Is Black." Like "Mr. Tambourine Man" & The Byrds, a studio band performed the song, with Mike Kennedy singing (and two other members as back-up voices). Thanks to pirate radio, the song achieves success. By the way, Whitburn's alphabetical order for this group is wrong! It is simple. "Los Bravos" means, in Spanish, "The Braves". As far as I can tell, the use of article "The" in front of the name of an artist is not considered. "The Beatles" are listed under "B" and not under "T", etc. So, "Los Bravos" is "Bravos, Los". And then there suddenly appeared before me The only one my arms would ever hold I heard somebody whisper, "Please adore me" #16) Marcels: "Blue Moon" (1961) [1] {1} Send them to the sweetest gal in town And if they do the trick, I'll hurry back to pick Your best white orchid for her wedding gown #17) Wayne Newton: "Red Roses For A Blue Lady" (1965) [23] {-} AT: There is a "Bonanza" episode called "The Unwritten Commandment" (he was quite young then) where his father wants him to sing "religious" while he (and the town) like him going "pop" (western style, of course). A blueprint of the gospel/pop debate?
