Barry and Jenny get "top billing" because they were the first to submit their entry. TEN teams identified all twenty five songs, and an additional five teams identified 24 of 25. Consequently, we were somewhat strict in our grading in order to avoid too many ties. See our notes after each song for an explanation of why we deducted single points on certain songs, and see our tie-breaker section for an explanation of how we selected and graded our tie-breakers. Our goal in this GOLQ was to provide a fun quiz while honoring the late, great George Harrison. Rick and I are both die-hard Beatle fans, and Rick came up with the theme message, "George Harrison, Quiet Beatle." Additionally, both tie breakers were penned by George. Because we knew the theme would provide hints, we anticipated higher scores than usual, but we were blown away by the number of perfect and near-perfect submissions. You folks are amazing! Thanks to Genateam for pointing out that, on this version, the lyric of the third line is actually, "....for all the WORLD to see". Se necesita una poca de gracia #24) Valens, Ritchie: La Bamba (1958/59) [22] {-} Early morning meadow tells me that today you're on your way You'll be coming home, home to me #25) Vanity Fare: Early In The Morning (1969/70) [12] {-} ------------- Tie-breakers: ------------- Had you come some other day then it may not have been like this, But you see now I'm too much in love #T1) Kingsmen, Fax, or Cryan' Shames: If I Needed Someone (1965/66) [-] {-} In order to be an acceptable answer, the recording had to be released 1969 or prior, according to the rules. Beatles and Hollies are unacceptable because they were used in the main part of the quiz. Answers listing legitimate recordings released in the '70's or later were given partial credit for title only. All the world is birthday cake #T2) Monday Rain: It's All Too Much (1969) [-] {-} Aside from the non-eligible Beatles, Monday Rain's version was the only version of this song we could find that was released 1969 or prior. As with T1, answers listing recordings in the '70's or later were given partial credit. General comment: Our initial intention for T1 and T2 was to supplement our message/theme by listing two songs written by George Harrison, and we selected "You Like Me Too Much" and "It's All Too Much." In addition our listing them alphabetically out of order, someone pointed out to us that the rules prohibited using the Beatles because we had already used them in the main portion of the quiz. Rather than deviate from our intended tribute to George, we decided to find alternate artists for the two songs. We found an artist for "It's All Too Much," but could not find one for "You Like Me Too Much," so we substituted "Badge." Then, someone pointed out that "Badge" was ineligible because it had charted on Billboard (a criteria we had also overlooked). So, we finally settled on "If I Needed Someone," which was done by several groups, three of which met the criteria. We did not intend for the artists of T1 and T2 to be so remote, but the obscurity turned out to be good in that it kept us from having an 8-10 way tie for first place! ============================================================================= This chart ranks the songs/artists from most recognized to least recognized. The 2nd number on the line denotes the average number of points scored on that song (total points divided by number of entrants, to 1 decimal place). For comparison purposes, tie-breakers are scored here on the usual 20-point scale. Rank Avg.
