RESULTS and ANSWER KEY for Golden Oldies Lyrics Quiz #263 (GOLQ263)

Thanks to the fifteen teams who took the time to play during this busiest
season of the year. We tried to make things a bit interesting by incorpo-
rating a seasonal theme, which over half of you correctly identified as
The Twelve Days Of Christmas." A reference to one of the gifts in the
"Twelve Days of Christmas" was in every entry, either in the title, lyric,
or artist. In the results below, we added a note indicating by quotation
marks the referenced "gift." Correct identification of the theme served
to break out several teams that would otherwise have tied.

Seven teams identified all 25 songs in the main part of the quiz. Gypsy's
Caravan and the Village Idiots tied for first by also correctly identifying
both tie breakers AND the special theme. The sympathy award goes to the
Delphi Trivia Club who also got both tie breakers and the theme but lost
one point due to a minor omission on #11, and thereby narrowly missed tying
for the top spot. EJ's also had a perfect score but did not identify the
theme so ended up in third place. Theme ID also broke a three-way tie for
the fifth spot, and a tie for the tenth spot.

Median score was 499 (!), and mean was 426, pretty high for what we
thought was going to be a more-difficult-than-average GOLQ.

Happy New Year, and we look forward to the GOLQ's of 2009!

Tom and Rick

We were surprised that songs we consider to be relatively obscure and which
we thought would be stumpers, such as "Little Red Rooster," "Green Chri$tma$."
and "The Annaheim, etc.," fared better than songs which we consider to be
much more well-known, or classics, such as "Brown Eyed Girl," "Little Drummer
Boy," and "The Boxer." We were also amazed at the number of people who
correctly identified "Young Birds Fly," a song which appeared on the Billboard
100 for only two weeks, peaking at #99.
