Hello again, oldies fans,
Welcome to GOLQ198. Many of these songs were used on past GOLQs. There
is no particular theme to this quiz. There is a rather difficult Puzzler
at the end of the quiz. It is optional and has no effect on your score,
but give it a try.
We feel that blind searches for lyrics on the Internet are not in the
spirit of the GOLQs, and we discourage them on this quiz.

David Seville hit #1 with "Witch Doctor" in early 1958. Then he
teamed up with The Chipmunks later that year to top the charts with
"The Chipmunk Song." But what was that frolicsome rodent trio doing
earlier in '58? Well, a supposedly female group suspiciously named
"The Three Playmates" charted with their only single, "Sugah Wooga"
in March. Coincidence? I think not!!
Okay, you didn't buy that. But the hidden answer to the following
puzzle is such a trustworthy, frequently corroborated statement
that IT MUST BE TRUE! ...
Your task is to solve the 40 clues below and place their answers
(each of which is one or more words) appropriately - one letter per
square - in the diagram. Clue answers are linked in the given clue
order head-to-tail in the diagram, i.e., the square holding the last
letter of any clue answer is the square holding the first (same)
letter of the next clue answer; asterisks mark the 40 squares where
the answers link up. The upper left square is where the chain both
begins and ends. (Many other squares in the diagram are also used
by more than one answer.) Every answer's letters must be entered
in a straight line in any of 8 directions - heading to the north,
south, east, west, northeast, southeast, northwest, or southwest.
To help give you some "direction," four of the squares are already
filled in. (The diagram has been designed to be printed using a
fixed-width font such as Courier.)
When all clue answers are correctly entered, some of the diagram's
squares will still be blank. For each blank square, mark down the
prearranged outside-the-diagram "border letter" physically closest
to it. (For example, the border letter nearest the square pre-filled
with the letter "N" is "D".) Then rearrange these associated border
letters into a word, and then again into another. If the correct
two words are chosen, they will - when placed together - uncover a
not-so-well-kept secret proving that ROCK 'N' ROLL IS NOT DEAD!!
